We like projects that are problems. Projects that intimidate others. Projects that require ingenuity and advanced skills. When the team says ‘How in the heck are we even going to do that?’ is when Ben smiles and says ‘We’re in.’ We’ve jacked up homes (in a good way) to remove the foundation and put in a new one. Don’t worry — we jacked them back down too. We’re nothing if not thorough. We’ve made Michigan basements habitable, usable spaces. We’ve fixed roof lines and framing nightmares that left other carpenters scratching their heads. And be sure to ask us about the time the house was sliding into the lake. That’s a good one. As third generation carpenters, we’ve used our expertise to conquer hundreds of residential, commercial and multi-use projects. Today, we offer a full line of carpentry services for commercial and residential construction, including — but not limited to — structural wood framing, non-structural framing, finish carpentry, hardware installations and temporary tenting.

General Contracting is the age-old process of design, bid, construct. At heart, we are builders, so we’ve bid and completed more projects than we can count. From permits, to sub-contractors and material men, we are fluent in every aspect of the general contracting process.

Residential construction

Residential construction is where almost all builders get their start, we share that trait with many of them. What we have learned over the years is that we aren’t too picky about what we build, as much as we are who we build it for. Why? Well, to be honest, tackling a residential construction project — whether it’s building a new home, finishing a basement or renovating a bathroom — with someone is a lot like a relationship. When it’s good, it’s really good. But when it’s not good, well…You see where we’re going with this? That’s why when we start talking residential construction with a new client our first meeting is always and only a consultation, an informative conversation about goals, design ideas, parameters and budgets. Think of it as the afternoon coffee date of construction. It’s simply a way for us all to decide if we even like each other enough to take things to the next level. If we’re both into it, we’ll put a ring on it and start talking design (with our in-house design service), budget and contracts.

Design-build services

Design-build construction is growing in popularity, primarily because owners appreciate the simplicity of hiring one firm to complete all aspects of their project. With one point of contact for the owner and the design-build firm, the entire process is streamlined, making the design-build process especially ideal when deadlines are tight. Using proven practices and materials and working with consultants along with others we know and trust enables us to focus on sustainability, value and performance throughout the project.

We offer design-build and general contracting services for all types of agricultural construction. We provide quality products and efficient turn around times on post and beam wood construction, pre-fabricated steel buildings, storage facilities and livestock buildings.

tenant build-out services

Most tenant build-out projects are fairly simple in terms of construction. If they tend to go awry it’s because of the construction firm’s failure to communicate — what we’ve got here is failure to communicate — with landlords, lessees and adjacent tenants. So in addition to being pretty good builders, we also make it a point to be pretty good communicators and make sure everyone who needs to be up to speed about what’s going on is up to speed. We can help with turn-key solutions, tenant improvement allowances and value engineering, and understand the crucial nature of dust, noise and debris control; quality assurance; safety; shop drawings and submittals; and accelerated and after-hours work schedules.
